More erotic mystery thriller than horror, EYES WIDE SHUT is a very dark film with a Christmas setting. It starts off at a high-end Christmas party and halfway through, makes a pit stop at a high-end sex orgy.

At the Zieglers’ grand holiday gala, Dr. Bill Harford & his wife, Alice (played by Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman), both arrive dressed in black formalwear. They look especially stunning strolling into a ballroom that’s packed with a lot of haute couture gowns and tuxedos. At the secret society ritual and orgy, it is all about the masks (there’s also loads of nudity). Bill disguises his identity in a gold macrame Venetian mask with antique craquelure decoration and a long dark cloak.
