The image of Santa Claus, Father Christmas, Saint Nick, or however you prefer to call him, is distinguishable by his white whiskers and red suit, colors that non-coincidentally evoke images of a Coca-Cola logo. As we celebrate Christmas, Fear Fashion pays tribute to some of our favorite stylish Santas. See who rocked the Santa suit the best by checking out the selections below.
CHRISTMAS EVIL (1980) – In my favorite part of the movie, Harry Stadling (wonderfully portrayed by Fiona Apple’s dad, Brandon Maggart) cuts up a fur coat and uses a sewing machine to make a padded Santa suit He truly commits to cultivating the Santa look by gluing a fake white beard and eyebrows to his face.
SILENT NIGHT (2012) – The opening scene introduces a killer Santa Claus who grooms himself and crafts together a creepy-looking translucent plastic mask with blackened eyes. His accessories include a cattle prod, a double-edged axe, a fire poker, a flame thrower, and a pair of HO-HO-HO brass knuckles which he uses to beat fellow Santa Donal Logue to death.
CHRISTMAS, BLOODY CHRISTMAS (2022) – Director Joe Begos just might be the first horror director to bring us a Terminator-style Santa. This Santa looks like a regular Santa in a red hat and suit, but -surprise! – he’s a robot, complete with green laser eyes and a pick head axe.
DIAL CODE SANTA CLAUS (1989) – This killer Santa’s red fur-lined boots are his outfit’s star while his Victorian-style cape is a close second. Santa’s hair and beard are snow-sprayed, giving them an especially fake appearance.
SANTA’S SLAY (2005) – The Santa from Santa’s Slay may be deranged but he has a unique sense of style. The hat, which is made of leather and fur with metal decorations on the brim and a studded black ball substituting for a pom pom, could be inspired by Midevil hat design or weaponry. His demeanor is far from warm and cuddly, though his soft, plushy suit seems to be. Other accouterments include a thick black belt with a silver metal angry Santa face for a buckle and a red leather cape with grey fur trim.
ALL THROUGH THE HOUSE (2015) – Here is one of the weirder Santa looks; a typical Santa suit worn with a soot-colored mask that reveals a pair of crazy eyes, wild white wig hair, and no hat.
SAINT (2010) – His duds (obviously not the modern Santa look) are based on St. Nicholas, the fourth-century Greek Bishop of Myra. The ghostly Saint Nick wears traditional bishop’s vestments while carrying a crosier or staff, which he uses as a spear.
DON’T OPEN TILL CHRISTMAS (1984) – A model (Pat Astley as “Sharon”) leaves a photo shoot dressed in a red hooded white faux fur-trimmed Santa coat and capelet. Her long cloak conceals her gender, and she is mistaken for a male Santa by a holiday-hating man-killer.
